My Therapy

They're cotton dishcloths.  And they're full of mistakes.  I work on them during the many hours Neil is in therapy each week.  The errors come when I stop to chat with the other caregivers, patients, and staff.  Then I lose my place and my count in the pattern.  I really don't mind.  It's worth the funny bumps and design flaws to be able to visit with other people who are going through life-changing challenges.  I learn so much from them.  We sympathize together, keep up-to-date on family, share successes and recipes, and we laugh.  Personally, I find some satisfaction in my knitting mistakes because of what they represent--heart-felt connections.  Besides, the cloths still work great.  Who cares what they look like!

It's like each cloth tells a story itself.....

Love those. My mom used them religiously. She got them from Aunt Laurie's mother, I think. Actually, come to think of it, I knitted a lot when Mom was in the hospital. It is therapeutic on all levels.

Those are nice and handy. My aunt in Sequim, WA use to make these, and I'd inherit one once in awhile. They look great. The dishes don't mind the bumps or mistakes. Keep on knitting!!!

I think they're great especially since I can't knit to save my life. I used to have a couple of these great cloths and wish I could find someone near me that sold them! I think you could sell them even with the "mistakes." Share your story and I think people would buy them; maybe a church bazzar donation or something....hmmmm....

I feel the same way about my pottery. The flaws make them unique. In fact, I served chili tonight in my first matching set of bowls, though you wouldn't know they matched by looking at them. If you want a perfect product, it's easier and even cheaper to buy them at the store. If you want something with personality and made with love, you can't beat homemade.

Hey Big Sis--The pot you gave me was perfect in every way, but it was much more unique than anything you'd buy in a store. I'd love it anyway, but it means so much more to me that you made it!

Working with yarn is just so relaxing. I make scarfs. Well sometimes when I'm not doing some other project. The reptitive motion is so calming.
